Sample Pharmacy Floor Plans

This page contains sample pharmacy floor plans designed to assist licensees and applicants when submitting an application for the registration or alteration of a premises.

Before registering the premises of a pharmacy business or pharmacy department, the Pharmacy Regulation Act 2010 (Act) requires the VPA to be satisfied of certain matters, including that the premises are suitable for the provision of pharmacy services and the premises comply with the Act, the Schedule and the VPA Standards.

To assist the VPA to determine whether premises should be registered, applicants for registration of premises are required to provide a copy of a pharmacy floor plan that demonstrates that the applicable regulatory requirements have been satisfied.

The VPA has published four sample floor plans. The sample plans give a visual representation of the elements VPA requires to be satisfied that the premises are suitable for the provision of pharmacy services and comply with the Act, the Schedule and the VPA Standards.

By providing different examples, the intention is to show applicants that there is no single preferred layout/format, rather to provide to applicants various options which may assist them to ensure that the plans they submit are complete.

Licensees and applicants should note:

  • Complete applications result in reduced assessment times and reduce the need for VPA officers to request further information or amended plans during the application process.
  • Floor plans do not have to be commissioned by a professional. However, all plans submitted must be to scale.
  • The examples given do not indicate, imply or guarantee that floor plans prepared in a similar manner will result in the registration of particular premises by the VPA.
