Public consultation – review of VPA Guidelines

Public consultation – review of VPA Guidelines

The VPA is releasing a draft revised version of the Victorian Pharmacy Authority Guidelines for comment.

The VPA Guidelines

  • represent the current policies of the VPA (any departure from them is expected to be justified on a case-by-case basis)
  • support the VPA Standards (which are mandatory for all Victorian licensees and registered premises) and the requirements of the Pharmacy Regulation Act 2010, and
  • should be read in conjunction with
    • the VPA Standards
    • guidelines issued by the Pharmacy Board of Australia
    • standards and guidelines issued by pharmacy professional organisations.

New guidelines have been added to support licensees to comply with standards under which guidelines had not previously been published (including guidelines relating to policies and procedures, quality improvement and risk management, hygiene and infection prevention and equipment). Other guidelines have been updated or amended.

In drafting revised guidelines, the VPA’s primary goal is to support licensees and pharmacists to comply with its standards and the requirements of the Act. The VPA aims to publish guidelines which are consistent with, and do not duplicate guidelines issued by others.

A copy of the draft guidelines and a summary of changes are available below.

You are invited to provide your feedback on the draft VPA Guidelines by Friday 7 June 2024. The VPA will consider the consultation feedback before finalising the Guidelines for publication on its website. Please submit any feedback by email to: enquiries@pharmacy.vic.gov.au.
